Highlights of VSI LSC Senior Championships

 

Saturday

In the afternoon distance session, Danielle LeClair (NOVA) won the Women's 1000 Freestyle, and Ryan DeWeese (PSDN) cranked out a great swim to finish with a 9:17.24 Nationals standard in the Men's race!  In the 100 Breaststroke, Ann Cipoletti (GATR) and Danny Royce (PSDN) won their events with EZ Speedo Champs Series (SCS) Meet cuts.  In the 200 Freestyle, Danielle LeClair (NOVA) won her second event with an SCS cut, just off the Meet Record, and David Walters (TPHN) trashed his VSI Record with the swim of the day, a 1:36.33 USA Swimming Nationals cut (and AFC Pool Record)Danielle LeClair (NOVA) made it a sweep with her third win in the 100 Butterfly with a Nationals cut (.02 off the Meet Record), while Jordan Anderson (CCA) took the honors on the Men's side with an SCS cut just off the Nationals' standard.  Elizabeth Shaw (NOVA) finished first in the 200 Individual Medley with an SCS cut and David Walters (TPHN) won his second race with an SCS QT.  In the 800 Freestyle Relays, NOVA topped the Women's race with a solid SCS time and CCA squeaked in a Nationals cut in the Men's event. 

Sunday
In the morning 200 Freestyle Relays, TPHN Women just missed the Meet Record (.10 off and an SCS cut) and CCA Men took the honors with an SCS cut.  In the 200 Butterfly, Danielle LeClair (NOVA) out-battled Elizabeth Shaw (NOVA) for the win, both breaking the Meet Record with Nationals cuts, and Bryan Pinkston (PSDN) won the Men's event in SCS qualifying time.  Christine Marshall (TPHN) and David Walters (TPHN) swept the 50 Freestyle sprint with SCS cuts.   Ann Cipoletti (GATR) and Danny Royce (PSDN) repeated last night's performance in the 200 Breaststroke winning their events with SCS cuts.   In the 100 Backstroke, Kristin Cihoski (TPHN) just out-touched Jenna Brick (RAYS) for first place in the Women's race and Nick Lloyd (RAYS) picked up the win in the Men's race.  In the 500 Freestyle, Danielle LeClair (NOVA) made it 5 for 5 with her win (an SCS QT) and David Walters (THPN) doubled up with a the day's best performance, again - a going away 8-second triumph, breaking his VSI Record with a time of 4:26.32 (a Nationals QT)!  NOVA just missed breaking the 15 year-old VSI Record in the 400 Medley Relay, but achieved a Nationals cut in their win in the Women's event (TPHN also got a Nationals cut) and CCA led the way in the Men's event with their own Nationals QT (PSDN also got a Nationals cut, too).

Monday

In the morning 200 Medley Relays, NOVA won both races - the Women broke the Meet Record by more then a second.  In the afternoon distance session, Anne Myers (NOVA)  and Griffin Lutterbein (NOVA) swept the 1650 Freestyles with SCS QTs.  In the 200 Backstroke, Jenna Brick (RAYS) took the Gold with an SCS QT and Nick Lloyd (RAYS) completed his sweep of the Backstroke events also with an SCS QT. In the 100 Freestyle, Christine Marshall (TPHN) bested the field by more than a second (an SCS QT) and David Walters (TPHN) set a third Meet and VSI Record with a Nationals QT 44.81!  Elizabeth Shaw (NOVA) completed her sweep of the IMs with a going away 7-second margin in the 400 Individual Medley and broke a 6 year-old Meet Record in a Nationals QT of 4:17.92 and Tyler Harris (NOVA) won the Men's race with an SCS cut.  In the 400 Freestyle Relays, NOVA won the Women's race with a Nationals cut (just .11 off the Meet Record) and ODAC came from behind to nip CCA at the touch with an SCS cut.  NOVA swept the Women's, Men's and Combined titles!!  Danielle LeClair (NOVA) and David Walters (TPHN) topped the Individual High Points races!

Record Breakers
Danielle LeClair (NOVA) broke the 17-18 200 Butterfly record with a 1.58.50 which bested the previous record,
1.59.59, set by Rebecca Harper on 12/14/2000.

Nick Lloyd (RAYS) broke the 15-16 100 Backstroke record with a 50.09 which bested the previous record,
50.54 set by Jeff Rouse on 2/21/1986.

David Walters (TPHN) broke the 17-18 50 Freestyle record with a 20.58 which bested the previous record,
20.66 set by Trent Johnson on 03/24/1998.

David Walters (TPHN) broke his own 17-18 100 Freestyle record with a time of 44.81.  This is also a new Open record which he also owned.

David Walters (TPHN) broke his own 17-18 200 Freestyle record with a time of 1.36.33.  This is also a new Open record which he also owned.

David Walters (TPHN) broke his own 17-18 500 Freestyle record with a time of 4.26.32.  This is also a new Open record which he also owned.
